Terms of Use

The Service

Video to Notes creates AI transcripts and notes from selected videos or available YouTube transcripts. By default, video files are read and audio is extracted in your browser; hosted processing sends compressed audio or transcripts to AI providers. Utility tools, such as conversion and trimming, process files locally. Some functions require sign-in or a paid plan. The service is intended for people aged 18 or over.

Accounts

Protect your sign-in credentials and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for misuse attributable to you, subject to applicable law. Usage limits may apply per device or account.

Plans

Try transcription and AI notes without signing up. Paid plans include higher-quality transcripts and notes, multiple languages, result emails so you can close the page after upload, Server files up to 8 GB and selections as long as your plan time allows. In Browser mode, the default, your original video stays in your browser and only selected audio is uploaded; Server mode on paid plans uploads the video and deletes it after extraction. If you saved your own Groq API key in an earlier version of the Chrome extension, you can keep using the extension's mode with that key, where Groq's charges and limits for your Groq account may apply; this mode is not offered to anyone else.

For audio and notes, paid plans support these languages: Afrikaans, Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Belarusian, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Burmese, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, Galician, Georgian, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hausa, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Kazakh, Khmer, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Maltese, Marathi, Mongolian, Nepali, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Uzbek, and Vietnamese. Accuracy depends on the language and the recording. Free transcribes fewer languages; the current list is on the pricing page.

We may adapt free features, including the size of the Free access, for technical, security or legal reasons. Changes to paid plans remain subject to statutory requirements, including any required valid reason, notice and termination rights. A period you have already paid for is not reduced by a general change of plans, and mandatory consumer rights are unaffected.

Subscriptions & Billing

Basic and Plus are subscriptions, billed monthly or yearly at the total price shown at checkout, including any applicable taxes. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period for another period of the same length (a month or a year) until you cancel it. Before a yearly plan renews, Lemon Squeezy sends you a reminder email about seven days in advance.

Basic: 20 hours per month of transcription for uploaded video files; generate notes for 300 YouTube videos per month, of any length. Plus: 50 hours per month of transcription for uploaded video files; generate notes for 1000 YouTube videos per month, of any length. YouTube videos do not use your uploaded-file transcription hours. A transcript must be available to generate notes. Paid allowances renew monthly on the subscription anniversary, or the last day of a shorter month, for monthly and yearly plans alike. Unused paid allowances do not carry over. One account shares its plan across the website and Chrome extension.

Server processing reserves the time it may need from your monthly plan allowance before the work starts. You are charged only when the requested result - transcript, notes and the export formats you chose - is ready; if the work fails before that, the reservation is released and the attempt costs no new time. Stopping a job keeps the result that was already published and its downloads, and the time charged for that result stays charged. A reservation without meaningful progress expires after 15 minutes and is released; time that is not charged returns to the month it was reserved from. If the selected part contains no usable speech, the existing discount for those parts still applies.

You can cancel at any time: without signing in, on our cancellation page (“Cancel contracts here”, linked at the bottom of every page of this website: fill in the form, then “Cancel now”); signed in, in your account on the website or in the Chrome extension (“Cancel subscription”, then “Cancel now”); in the Lemon Squeezy customer portal; or by email to support@video-to-notes.com. You see a confirmation on screen, and we also confirm the cancellation by email. A cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you can use your plan until then. Apart from the yearly rule below and your statutory rights, the remaining part of a period you have paid for is not refunded.

Yearly plans after the first year: the first year is a fixed term. Once a yearly plan has renewed, you can cancel it at any time, and it then ends at the end of the current monthly allowance period. We refund the unused full months of the current yearly payment: refund = yearly price ÷ 12 × the number of full allowance months left after the current one. Before you confirm with “Cancel now”, the confirmation page shows the end date and the refund amount. The refund goes to your original payment method.

Price changes apply only to new subscriptions. Your subscription keeps its price for as long as it runs. If we ever want to change the price of your existing subscription, we will ask for your agreement first; if you don't agree, nothing changes.

If a payment fails, Lemon Squeezy tries again for a limited time. Your plan stays usable while it does, and it ends if the payment cannot be collected.

Switching plans (for example from Basic to Plus, or from monthly to yearly billing) is not offered in the product at the moment: cancel, then subscribe to the other plan once your current one has ended, or contact us.

Lemon Squeezy is the Merchant of Record: it sells the subscription to you and collects the payment. The seller and purchase terms are identified at checkout and on your receipt; see the buyer terms. Withdrawal, refunds and cancellation are formally the seller's duties; we carry them out on its behalf (refunds and cancellations through Lemon Squeezy). Our withdrawal, refund and cancellation commitments in these terms apply in addition to Lemon Squeezy's buyer terms and never reduce them. Our terms govern our provision of the service where validly agreed and do not override mandatory rights against the seller.

Refunds & Right of Withdrawal

• Consumers in the EU/EEA and UK normally have 14 days from conclusion of the purchase contract to withdraw without giving reasons. The period is subject to the required withdrawal information and any statutory extension.
• The right of withdrawal can end before the 14 days are over only where the law provides for it. For a paid service, it ends early only once the service has been fully provided, and only if you expressly asked for the service to start before the withdrawal period ends and acknowledged that you lose the right once the service has been fully provided. If you withdraw after asking for an immediate start, you pay a proportionate amount for the service provided until you withdraw, where the law provides for this and you were informed about it. Using a plan without that request does not end your right of withdrawal.
• Before the checkout opens, the Chrome extension and the website ask you to tick a box to subscribe: you expressly ask for your plan to start immediately, before the withdrawal period ends, and you acknowledge that if you withdraw, you pay a proportionate amount for the service provided until then, and that you lose your right of withdrawal once the service has been fully provided. We record when you ticked it, which wording you saw and for which plan.
• If you withdraw after asking for an immediate start, the proportionate amount is calculated by time, not by the hours you used: the price of the current billing period × the days from its start until your withdrawal ÷ the number of days in that billing period. We refund the rest to your original payment method through Lemon Squeezy, and your plan ends when we receive your withdrawal.
• Outside statutory rights and the yearly-plan refund described under Subscriptions & Billing, refunds are discretionary. This does not limit rights for defective or undelivered services, or other mandatory refund rights.
• To withdraw, send us a clear statement: by email to support@video-to-notes.com (you can use the model withdrawal form below), by post to the address in the Legal Notice, or with the cancellation form (“Cancel contracts here”: choose the extraordinary cancellation and write “withdrawal” as the reason). An order number helps identify the purchase but is not a condition for exercising the right. We handle the withdrawal on behalf of the seller, Lemon Squeezy, and refund the amount due through Lemon Squeezy to your original payment method.

Withdrawal Information

Right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from this contract within fourteen days without giving any reason. The withdrawal period will expire after fourteen days from the day of the conclusion of the contract.

To exercise the right of withdrawal, you must inform us (Ivan Gushchin, c/o Impressumservice Dein-Impressum, Stettiner Str. 41, 35410 Hungen, Germany; email: support@video-to-notes.com) of your decision to withdraw from this contract by an unequivocal statement (e.g. a letter sent by post or an email). You may use the model withdrawal form below, but it is not obligatory. You can also electronically fill in and submit the cancellation form on our website (“Cancel contracts here”). If you use this option, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by email) without delay.

To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.

Effects of withdrawal

If you withdraw from this contract, we shall reimburse to you all payments received from you, without undue delay and in any event not later than fourteen days from the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract. We will carry out such reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.

If you requested to begin the performance of services during the withdrawal period, you shall pay us an amount which is in proportion to what has been provided until you have communicated us your withdrawal from this contract, in comparison with the full coverage of the contract.

Lemon Squeezy, the Merchant of Record, is the seller; we receive and handle withdrawals on its behalf, and the reimbursement is paid through Lemon Squeezy. How the proportionate amount is calculated is explained under Refunds & Right of Withdrawal.

Acceptable Use

• do not use the service for unlawful purposes or to infringe others' rights
• do not attempt to overload, disrupt, scrape at scale, or circumvent usage limits or security controls
• only upload videos or audio you have the right to process
• respect the rights of content owners and the terms of the platforms the content comes from
• when you chat with your notes, do not ask for illegal or harmful content and do not try to get around the chat's rules

Optional Server Upload (Website or Chrome Extension)

With a Basic or Plus plan, the website or Chrome extension lets you upload a video file to our server instead of extracting its audio in your browser. This is optional; the browser remains the default. We use the uploaded file only to extract its audio and delete it automatically, with a target of 24 hours; deletion may take longer (see the privacy policy). By uploading a file, you confirm that you have the rights needed to have it processed this way and that it does not contain illegal content. You are responsible for the files you upload and are liable under the statutory rules for damage caused by a breach of this obligation. If you breach it, we may suspend server upload or your account. To report illegal content, email support@video-to-notes.com, our point of contact for users and authorities under the Digital Services Act (we read and reply in English and German). A report should explain why you think the content is illegal, say where it is (for example the file name and when it was uploaded), and give your name, your email address and a statement that you believe in good faith that the report is correct and complete. We handle reports promptly, carefully and objectively, tell you what we decided and, if we act against a file or an account, tell the uploader why. Uploaded files are deleted with a target of 24 hours; deletion may take longer.

Chat with your notes

If you are signed in, you can ask questions about a result in your History. Answers are generated automatically by AI, from that result's transcript and notes first; when they do not cover a question, the answer can use general knowledge and is marked as such. Answers can be incomplete or wrong, so check important points in the video. The daily question limits for Free accounts and paid plans are shown on the pricing page; in addition, chat questions are subject to a fair-use limit that protects the service. Questions that ask for illegal or harmful content are not answered. After the third such refused question in one day (UTC), chat is paused automatically for your account until 00:00 UTC; after the tenth within thirty days, chat is switched off for your account until we switch it on again. Contact us if you think this happened by mistake. Pausing or switching off chat does not affect your other use of the service.

Third-Party Content and Services

On the website and in the Chrome extension, Free audio transcription and notes use Gemma models hosted by AWS Bedrock in Frankfurt, Germany. Paid plans use Google Gemini for transcription and notes. We send the selected audio, transcript or public YouTube captions and basic video details, with our instructions, to the relevant provider. The original video remains on your device unless you choose the optional Server Upload described below. Unsupported Free languages are omitted with a notice rather than sent to a paid transcription model. Lemon Squeezy handles payments and subscriptions; purchases are also subject to its buyer terms. If you use that mode with your own Groq API key, Groq processes those requests under your own Groq account. We remain responsible for our contractual obligations when using service providers. Paid requests may also use AWS Bedrock for transcription recovery.

Transcription recovery with Amazon Transcribe

If Free transcription with Gemma still cannot transcribe part of your audio after retrying it in smaller pieces, only that part is sent to Amazon Transcribe in Ireland. Each such part becomes a batch job there. Their selected audio and provider output are stored temporarily in private AWS storage without the original filename, and deleted after completion. A recoverable result is kept for one hour; minimal polling and settlement metadata for 24 hours. Abandoned objects are scheduled for deletion under a one-day rule; deletion can take longer. Leaving the page does not cancel an existing batch job.

AI Output Disclaimer

AI-generated notes can be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. Do not rely on the output for any important, legal, medical, financial, or safety-related decision without independently verifying it against the source video.

Intellectual Property

Video to Notes does not claim ownership of the videos you upload or the transcripts and notes generated from them. Generated notes are provided for your own use; you are responsible for how you use them and for any rights in the underlying content.

Availability & Warranty

We work to keep the service available, but as an online service it can be interrupted by maintenance, faults, outages of the third-party providers listed above, or events beyond our control. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, and we do not promise that a transcript or notes can be produced for every video. The statutory warranty rights for digital services apply to the service, paid and free, as far as the law provides.

Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), and under any guarantee we have expressly given.

Subject to the unlimited liability above and other mandatory liability, in cases of simple negligence we are liable only for the breach of essential contractual obligations — obligations whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may regularly rely — and only up to the damage that is typical for this type of contract and foreseeable when the contract was made. Any further liability is excluded. This also applies in favour of our agents and subcontractors.

Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the service if you seriously or repeatedly violate these terms (in particular the Acceptable Use rules) or where required for legal or security reasons; where reasonable, we will warn you first. If we permanently discontinue the paid service, we will refund the unused part of any subscription fee you have paid in advance. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Changes to these Terms

Updates apply to future contracts once validly agreed. Changes to an existing contract require a valid legal basis or your agreement where required; continued use alone does not constitute that agreement. Mandatory notice and termination rights remain unaffected.

Governing Law & Disputes

These terms are governed by German law, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you habitually reside. Nothing in these terms limits mandatory consumer rights you have under the law of your country of residence, inside or outside the EU.

We are not willing or obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board (Verbraucherschlichtungsstelle).

Some parts may not be transcribed because of provider restrictions, copyright safeguards, audio quality or other processing limits. Complete transcription is not guaranteed. Completed parts remain available with the missing time ranges marked. For a completed paid upload with usable text and unrecoverable gaps, missing audio uses no allowance and a 50% allowance discount applies to all successfully processed audio in the whole submitted selection. Stopping early or a temporary outage uses the normal rate for completed audio; unprocessed audio is not charged. This adjusts processing allowance, not the subscription price or a cash refund. Later recovery charges only additional covered audio at the pinned rate. Notes can only reflect available speech. If this upload already qualified for the discount before a later Stop, the same discounted allowance rate remains.
